London does Christmas theatre properly, and not just the stories you’d expect. There’s ballet, there’s Dickens done the traditional way, there’s Dickens done deliberately wrong, and there’s a circus act that has nothing to do with Christmas at all beyond the timing.

Rather than just presenting you with a long list, this guide picks out what actually sets each show apart. So you can decide which Christmas shows in London 2026 suit your plans

The Best Christmas Shows in London 2026

The Nutcracker

English National Ballet brings The Nutcracker back to the London Coliseum. It’s the one to pick if you want the classic version of Christmas theatre: Tchaikovsky’s score, the tree that grows, the snow that falls.

With its full orchestra and lavish sets, it’s the safest bet for anyone who wants a night at the theatre that feels properly festive.

A Christmas Carol

The Old Vic’s take on Dickens leans into staging rather than spectacle. It’s the version to choose if you want the original story told with atmosphere.

With its extended run at the Old Vic, it gives you plenty of flexibility if you’re booking around other Christmas plans. It also makes a strong choice for anyone exploring Christmas theatre London 2026.

A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong

Same Dickens tale, entirely different evening. This one’s built around things going deliberately wrong on stage, so if you’d rather laugh than reflect, this is your show.

Staged at Wyndham’s Theatre, it suits well if you want something lighter than a straight retelling among the London Christmas shows.

Cirque Alice

It’s an Alice in Wonderland-themed circus production, all acrobatics, aerial work and puppetry. Book it if you’re after a visual show rather than another version of a Christmas tale. It’s on at Royal Festival Hall over the festive period.

Stick Man

In this show, Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s character gets the stage treatment at Bloomsbury Theatre, with performances scheduled throughout the festive season.

It’s aimed at ages 3 and up, runs for around an hour, and is a solid choice if you’re taking a young child to the theatre for the first time among the family Christmas shows London has to offer.

Christmas Musicals and Other Festive Shows to Consider

If none of the above fit in your list, then London’s Christmas musicals London 2026 festive line-up goes wider still. This year’s festive shows in London 2026 programme also includes Pinocchio the Musical, The Snowman, Peppa Pig’s Big Family Show! and The Little Match Girl, among others.

When Should You Book Christmas Theatre Tickets in London?

  • If you are planning for weekends and school holidays, then do not be too late, as on these days seats get filled quite fast compared to normal days.

  • Some 2026 production will also run in January, past Christmas Day. You can also book this one for you earlier and enjoy quieter weekdays.

  • Before booking tickets for any show, always go through the details provided and check the age-related guidance.

  • Prices for Christmas theatre tickets London and availability shift closer to the date. So always check the current listing before any commitment.

    Which One Should You Choose?

Fancy ballet, drama, comedy, spectacle, or something for the kids: London’s 2026 Christmas shows cover all of it, so pick the mood and book accordingly.
